Winning a grant isn't easy and often the process of writing a proposal seems intimidating. Most of the difficulty comes from not knowing what exactly goes into an effective proposal. This session will cover the following topics:
  •  The essential components of a grant proposal package
  •  Important writing techniques that make your proposal stand out from the pile
  •  Layout and design of a strong proposal
  •  Customizing a proposal to match a grant maker's interest and using your proposal as a relationship building tool
You'll go back to the office with a well honed plan for ensuring that your proposals cover the right bases every time.

Katherine Lovell
Grants and Contracts Manager
Open Hand (Project Open Hand/Atlanta, Inc.)

As Grants and Contracts Manager for Open Hand, Katherine develops and manages of all major grants and contracts processing, with personal responsibility for 57% of the agency’s total funding. She researches and analyzes health-related information, outcomes data, as well as resources and funding opportunities; coordinates compliance with funder requirements; and develops project budgets, justifications, and unit costs. Katherine previously managed grant and contract activities, budgets, reports and outcomes evaluation for several statewide programs and research projects; as well as directed processes for Request For Applications, applicant and grantee communications, external review, awards, and reporting. She has reviewed federal grants for the Department of Health and Human Services. One of her recent proposals was nominated by the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and selected for inclusion in Foundation Center’s Guide to Winning Proposals, a widely circulated book for non-profits, showcasing model proposals from across the nation
