Annual giving campaigns

Ask any fundraiser and they'll tell you that the annual fund is the foundation for all other fundraising efforts. Though these campaigns tend to bring in smaller donations, they frequently reach a larger number of donors than many other approaches. Your annual fund also contains a valuable pool of supporters from which major donors will emerge. In order to take advantage of your annual fund, you need to develop a robust campaign that will reach every potential donor - both large and small.

Topics we will cover include:
  • Building a constituent base by focusing on donors' wants, needs and interests
  • How to make a compelling case for annual support
  • Creative ways to match institutional needs with donor interests
  •  Effective solicitation strategies 
  •  Established ways to measure results
Attendees will walk out with new approaches to (i) better understand donors, (ii) segment donors, (iii) communicate to donors, and (iv) match available fundraising vehicles to donor interests. This session is intended for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.
Speakers for this session:

Christy Eaton
Director of Development
American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (AAHPERD)

Since 1991, Christy Eaton has served in a fundraising/marketing role for several organizations. Eaton is the first development professional at AAHPERD and in three years has grown the sponsorship and individual giving revenue to over $1,000,000. Eaton’s main responsibilities are fundraising for donations from members and marketing the programs and events of the organization for sponsorship. Before joining AAHPERD, Eaton served as the Deputy Director of Development for a non-profit advocacy organization, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in Washington, DC. Eaton was responsible for the direct marketing program, which raised over $1,000,000 in individual donations, and other programs including online giving, donor sustainer programs, and planned giving. Prior to this position, Eaton was a political fundraising consultant to national presidential campaigns and several state and local campaigns.

Paulette Jackson
Regional Development Director
United Negro College Fund

Paulette is a Regional Development Director for the United Negro College Fund’s Northern Field Operations. Her position bears responsibility for overseeing a comprehensive multi-state $5.4 million dollar annual giving campaign. She is also responsible for multi-year strategic partnerships that provide educational opportunities for minority higher education students. Ms. Jackson was previously Director of Development for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Arlington, VA. Prior to joining NAMI, she was on the development team at the University of Missouri – Rolla. She attended the University of Illinois, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at Cameron University in Oklahoma and a Master of Arts degree in philanthropy and development at St. Mary’s University in Minnesota.

Gregory Naleski
Vice President for Development
NativityMiguel Network of Schools

As the Vice President, Greg oversees all fundraising, development consultation, and communication services provided by the Network and within the Network’s office. Prior to coming on board with the NativityMiguel Network of Schools, Greg was the Executive Director for Institutional Advancement at Georgetown Prep. Greg ran a successful $25 million campaign that finished $5 million over goal through new strategies of cultivation and stewardship. He grew the Annual Fund by more than 30 percent and doubled the revenue raised from the gala event during his time at Prep. Greg has also worked as the Major Gifts Officer and former faculty at Loyola Blakefield. He holds a Biology degree from Loyola College in Maryland.
