Online fundraising: harnessing technology to build and maintain relationships

With the potential of technology to reach a much larger audience quickly and inexpensively, more and more organizations are using an online presence to reach donors, members, volunteers and supporters.  An online presence consists of much more than a "Donate Now" button on your website.  You can now use technology to run special events, promote a planned giving program, recruit and retain volunteers, manage donor data, and much more.  In addition, the internet offers a valuable way to market your nonprofit if you know how to use your website effectively.

This session will explore the following topics:
  • Promoting your organization online: use email campaigns and E-newsletters to reach new and existing supporters of your organization
  • Electronic prospect research: use the internet to uncover rich data sources and build profiles of top prospects
  • Online donor recruitment: use website appeals to create donor interest
  • Online donor renewal: use online renewals to lower costs and increase response rates
  • Volunteer mobilization: use the web to build strong relationships with your volunteers
  • Donor management systems: use donor management systems to keep in touch with, and reach out to, record numbers of donors
  • Online event management: use software to plan, market, and coordinate your events

Eva Bowie

A 27 year direct marketing veteran and a DMAW member since 1984, Eva has held a wide range of positions on both the client and supplier sides. As Manager of New Market Channels for a major nonprofit organization, Eva managed large acquisition and donor programs including telemarketing, e-mail and multi-channel campaigns. She produced the first direct response television campaign with complementary micro site for the organization. She is currently responsible for business development for the Production Management Group in Columbia, Maryland where she helps nonprofit organizations implement on- and off-line direct marketing campaigns. Industry speaking experience includes seminars on the subject of Hispanic Fundraising for BlackBaud’s User Conference and the DMAW. Eva is a member of the Direct Marketing Association’s Nonprofit Federation, the Direct Marketing Fundraisers Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of DMAW.

Erin Shy

Erin Shy is the director for the professional services department for Sage North America`s Nonprofit Solutions business unit in Austin, Texas. In this role, she helps ensure Sage`s nonprofit and government customers receive superior consulting and training services in support of their fundraising and fund accounting software products. Previously, Shy served in various sales and training management roles within Sage`s Nonprofit Solutions business, including director of business development, corporate sales consultant, installed base sales manager, and trainer. Prior to joining Sage, she worked as a consultant in Accenture`s Communications & High Tech Group in Reston, Va., where she assisted in the implementation of enterprise CRM applications. Shy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Government, with a minor in History, from College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
