Winning a grant isn't easy and often the process of writing a proposal seems intimidating. Most of the difficulty comes from not knowing what exactly goes into an effective proposal. This session will cover the following topics:
  •  The essential components of a grant proposal package
  •  Important writing techniques that make your proposal stand out from the pile
  •  Layout and design of a strong proposal
  •  Customizing a proposal to match a grant maker's interest and using your proposal as a relationship building tool
You'll go back to the office with a well honed plan for ensuring that your proposals cover the right bases every time.

Jeri Alcock
Principal
On Course Consulting

Jeri Alcock founded On Course Consulting in 2006. In her role as a consultant, Jeri provides fundraising, board development and strategic planning services for nonprofit organizations. Jeri has worked with organizations of all sizes to improve their fundraising return on investment and integrate their programming, fundraising and advocacy efforts. Jeri holds a Masters degree in Social Work and specializes in fund development for health and human service organizations. For the past two years, Jeri has served on United Way’s Tools for Living Vision Council which oversees the dispersement of approximately 1.6 million in project funding in the Portland Metro area.

Alice Dickow
Director of Foundation & Corporate Relations
Providence Health Systems

In her current position, Alice specializes in proposal development and grant writing for all Providence faculties located in Oregon. A long time resident of Hawaii, Alice comes to Oregon with an extensive background in behavioral health, research/evaluation and primary care. She was the Executive Director of the Women’s Addiction Treatment Center of Hawaii and the Principal Investigator for a federally funded methamphetamine research project. It in this capacity she had responsibility for all aspects of proposal development, an emphasis in writing large government grants and research proposals. Alice was hired as a special projects officer and grant writer for a federally qualified Health Center in Honolulu. In addition to helping the Center start an integrated behavioral health program, she was instrumental in assisting the center in expanding its facilities, services and information technology systems.

Paul F. Morris, CFRE
Resource Development Officer
Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation

Paul has worked in the field of fund development for 14 years. In his current role with the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, he oversees all charitable giving to support the sight, hearing and health assistance programs operated by the Foundation. This includes grantwriting, individual giving, corporate sponsorship, planned giving and seeking support from Lions Clubs across the state. In previous roles Paul has served in the lead development officer capacity and has raised money through grants, individual gifts, events and capital campaigns. Paul has a tremendous track record of success in seeking and securing grant funds from a variety of sources and at a range of amounts. Paul received his Bachelors Degree in Communication from the University of Puget Sound in 1995 and has held the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential since 2000. He is a member of WVDO and the Northwest Planned Giving Roundtable.
