This session will help to prepare you and your organization to respond and recover from an emergency or national/natural disaster. You will walk away with the tools needed to go back to your organization and develop your own plan, and offer valuable resources to your employees to implement.

Speakers for this session:

Wilma Bass
President
Trauma Outreach Associates, Inc.

Wilma has been involved in emergency preparation and trauma response for 20 years. In her current position she is responsible for consultation and training in trauma readiness so that organizations know what to do when a crisis strikes. She also provides critical incident response services to ensure a healthy recovery from traumatic events. She manages the overall psychological recovery efforts for all impacted personnel. Previously, as Owner at Wilma Bass, MFT, Wilma was responsible for providing trauma treatment and counseling to individuals within a private practice setting. She coordinated a team of volunteer crisis responders for the San Francisco Unified School District and other non-profit organizations. Before that, she worked as Clinical Director at WOMAN, Inc. where she was responsible for coordinating the intern program in an organization serving battered women. Provided training, consultation and clinical services. Wilma currently serves as Team Member for American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team. She earned MA in Psychology from Sonoma State University and a BA and BS in Psychology from University of Cape Town. She is a member of International Critical Incident Stress Foundation; Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists; California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Brian Whitlow

San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disaster

Brian has been the Program Manager at SF CARD for three years. In his current position, he is responsible for consulting with senior leadership from a wide range of religious organizations and non-profit human service agencies to identify major risks and help facilitate the implementation of a business continuity plan. In addition to business continuity planning, he develops and conducts agency-wide emergency trainings, exercises, and drills so that leadership and frontline staff are able to effectively respond in an emergency or disaster. In addition to working at SF CARD, Brian has been volunteering with the American Red Cross Bay Area since 2007. In September 2008 he assisted with partner services in Louisiana following Hurricane Gustav and Ike. Before Brian began working at SF CARD, he interned with the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management. While working for DEM, Brian primarily focused his work on citizen outreach, logistics, and training. He earned Masters Degree in Public Administration from University of San Francisco and is a member of the Emergency Planning Society (EPS), an active member in the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), and a former member of Business Recovery Managers Association (BRMA).
