In this session, you'll closely examine three case studies to get real life feedback on how winning corporate-nonprofit relationships actually work. We will look at the following:

Speakers for this session:

Jessica A. Cohen
Assistant General Counsel
Infectious Disease Research Institute

Jessica Cohen has worked at the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) since May 2006. She graduated from Seattle University School of Law and is licensed to practice in Washington. She holds a BA in Government and Latin American Studies from Smith College in Massachusetts. At IDRI she drafts and negotiates agreements and licenses, assists in managing intellectual property, and helps facilitate public private partnerships. Jessica’s past work in the non-profit sector includes working for an anti-hunger and food rescue organization and providing research and consulting services to increase attorneys’ participation in pro bono work, both in Washington, D.C. Jessica speaks Spanish and is a volunteer attorney for Northwest Immigrants Rights Project in Seattle.

Shannon Evers

Girl Scouts of Western Washington

Shannon is the Vice President of Fund Development for Girl Scouts of Western Washington where she oversees fundraising activities in the south sound as well as all aspects of grant writing, database management and product sales throughout the council. Prior to joining Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Shannon worked for Girl Scouts-Columbia River Council in Portland as the Fund Development and Marketing Director where she was recognized as a “rising-star” in the fund development field and received the Starbright Professional Award from the Willamette Valley Development Officers Association. Shannon has extensive experience working with corporate donors, developing relationships and organizing funding packages to meet company needs. She received her degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon and is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). Shannon is a lifetime Girl Scout and is a member of the Association for Non Profit Professionals (AFP) and the Tacoma Rotary.

Through his law firm and his business consulting firm, The CIBO Group, Inc., Mr. Treacy has pioneered the development of "Corporate Planned Giving" tools, which integrate a corporation`s business planning with its charitable planning, in new and powerful ways. This includes corporate giving in the context of mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation, bank- and corporate-owned life insurance, and golden parachute planning. In his 28 years of working with donors, Mr. Treacy has served as a partner at two of the nation’s largest law firms, and has authored numerous books and articles on charitable giving and business planned giving. He is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). He earned his BA degree from Rider University and his JD degree from UCLA.
