John Alley
Director, Major Gifts and Donor Relations
Virginia Mason Medical Center - Foundation

John is a seasoned senior-level fundraising professional with 14 years experience in the non-profit field. He has spent his career stewarding and building long-term relationships with individuals and corporations, and has a successful history of soliciting and closing major gifts. He has spent the last 51/2 years with Virginia Mason Foundation, where he has personally secured and closed five individual gifts in excess of $1 million. For the last 3 years, his major gift total was $10.4 million. Previously, he spent two years as capital campaign manager for Overlake Hospital in Bellevue WA and six years as director of community campaigns/business development with the Seattle United Way of King County. Prior to his fund-raising career, John spent 20 years in the profit sector, with RJ R Nabisco, as sales manager for Washington and Alaska. He was born and raised in Southern California and attended Cal State at Los Angeles.

Jeanne Jachim

Jeanne has more than 25 years of professional development experience including work in higher education, health care and social service organizations. For more than a decade her primary area of focus has been individual major giving. In her current position, she leads a team of more than twenty fundraisers, and in the past five years, her major gifts team has tripled the amount of money raised annually. She routinely trains the Foundation Board and physicians on how to be involved in the major gift process. Additionally, Jeanne has oversight for Virginia Mason’s $100 million capital campaign, which is on track for completion in 2010. She has a BA from Concordia College and is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Washington Planned Giving Council.

Donald Summers
Director
Altruist Partners LLC

Donald has over a decade of successful major gift fundraising experience, having secured many 6- and 7-figure investments from individuals, foundations, corporations, and foreign governments. Prior to founding Altruist Partners, he ran two charitable foundations, led a major gift program at the University of Washington, and directed four other major gift efforts that resulted in a 100% to 1000% increase in gift revenue in the first fiscal year. Summers is a graduate of Middlebury and Harvard and is currently completing his doctoral dissertation on fundraising best practices at the University of Washington. His most recent essays, articles and commentary have been published by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Harvard Magazine.
